Build the Skills You Need For Success
What is the difference between a Tutor and a Coach? When I coach students, they are in the lead. They decide what their goals are, what they need help on, what they need to work on each week. Then it's my job to help them get to where they need to go. So often, schools focus on the content on the exam and not on the skills a student needs to be able to master that content. Students need to be able to be self aware, to identify their own challenges and make a plan to solve them, and they need crucial self-advocacy skills that will serve them as they are becoming more independent. Often, students have further barriers to overcome - a language barrier as they are learning in their second language; a culture gap, as they are moving between high school programs and need to adjust; special educational needs, such as ADHD, Dyslexia, or Autism, and they need a trusted and open minded coach to help them navigate.
Maria struggled to communicate academic needs as an English language learner. Through academic coaching, she developed self-advocacy skills and learned to request accommodations, achieving success in college-level courses.
James felt overwhelmed by traditional study methods that didn't take his ADHD into consideration. We developed learning strategies and executive function skills, helping him achieve academic success from failing to honor roll.
Sophia struggled transitioning from IB program to American high school. Through educational coaching, she learned cultural adaptation skills and communication strategies, successfully gaining university admission.
