A Wish in the Dark - A Review
by Calvi, 12
Pong lives in the Nawmon prison with his best friend Somkit .One day the Governor visit the prison and Pong start to contradict the Governor which makes him unhappy .After this “fight” ,Pong escaped prison and goes to father Cham’s temple .In the meantime Nok ,the prison guardian’s perfect daughter goes to find .The major themes are dictatorship, and poverty(for example when you steal food to eat and then you go to prison . The genre of the book is fantasy .
I was shocked in the good way to see the book start and end with a mango falling from the tree .It made me laugh .I was also felt sad because of all the children in prison for the parents’ mistake, but there was no orphanage for them . Half way through the book ,Pong jumped off a waterfall to escape from Nok .I was worried because the book was only wasn’t finished yet and wanted to read and know the end .
I would recommend this book because I did enjoy reading it even though some parts where I couldn’t follow the story .It is also a book for people who like to read fantasy, but I still enjoyed it even though it is not my favorite genre.
I will recommend this book for pre teen(so 10 years and more ) and give it an A !
