The Girl Who Drank the Moon - A Review

by Nathan, 11

The Girl Who Drank The Moon is a fantasy book where people are frightened about the witch in the woods and tell terrible stories about her. But they never think that the witch might be in the protectorate.

I loved this book. It was wonderful. I felt the different emotions the characters felt.Like sadness or fear if the characters were in a bad situation I would feel sad . For example when Luna turned Xan’s pet rock into a living animal I laughed because Luna found it funny. And it also is pretty ridiculous.

I think that Luna’s magic can be helpful but that she doesn’t control it. For example, once she accidentally turned Glerk into a bunny and she also turned Xan’s pet rock into a living creature while she was playing and being silly because Luna is not very obedient.!Luna uses her magic when she thinks or wants something to be different. Luna needs to control her magic for her safety so that she won’t accidentally kill herself. She also needs to learn that she can help people, for example cure a sickness. It will also help her get exactly what she wants without any side effects. It might also prevent her from hurting someone if she is angry or sad.The council of elders manipulates the people in the protectorate by using fear. They do this by frightening them with stories about witches and sacrificing a baby every year to keep people afraid and to tell them that the elders can help them. This Explains that when people are scared they listen to whoever acts confident and assures protection.THis also demonstrates the fact that stories are powerful enough to control people. For example the people in the protectorate never realize how Sister Ignita never ages.

This tells us that when you are afraid you might not think as well as if you weren't scared because when the people in the protectorate are scared of the witch in the woods they don’t wonder why sister Ignatia never ages. When they realize that the elders have been lying they start wondering why sister Ignita never ages and start rebelling.

Throughout the book The moon is still the most important part of the story’s magic because without it Luna would not be magic and the title would make no sense. The moon represents Luna’s magic because the moon enmagiced her.The bog is also very important because without it nothing would exist because the bog is where everything appeared. The volcano creates tension because it is always on the verge of erupting and destroying everything so it is stressful and it adds suspense to the story.

You might not  like fantasy but this book is wonderful.I loved this book so much that I finished it in one day. I just couldn't put my book down.

I would not recommend this book to everyone because it is long and pretty difficult to understand. Even though it is complicated to understand I would still recommend it to people that enjoy reading books.
