A Long Walk to Water: A Review

by Lucie, 11

A Long Walk to Water is a book where they show us the war and perseverance. I liked this book because it tells us that you need to never give up and to be brave. And it shows us that there are people that have a very complicated life so that you will complain less. They were in South Sudan during the war and a little girl named Nya needed to go two times a day to go get water for her family. And we are also talking about a little boy of eleven years old who has to walk to a camp during the war.

I like this book because there were people who were helping others, and also because we don’t see only the happy parts they show us the real life. It was a little bit too sad. My favorite  part of the book was when Salva decided to go help other villages to get water easyer even if they are doing war because it shows us that he wants other people to have a better life than him. The most surprising thing was when the group of men took Salva with them to walk for a long time because he is only a little boy of eleven years.

My favorite character was Nya because she is almost my age and she is very brave. She is walking eight hours a day just to not have clean water. He changed a lot because first he was a little boy of eleven years and now he is a big boy of seventeen years. Before he was not listening at school and now he wants to learn English because it will give him opportunities because he didn't want to stay in Sudan in the refugee camp. Before he was thinking only of his family and now he is thinking of them from time to time. I think the  bravest between Nya and Salva is Salva because he did not know where his family was just if they were still alive because for me the family is very important. But Nya was still very courageous. I learned about the daily life of Nya that it was very hard to not have a choice to not know how to read and right to not go to school but if you are a boy you can go but you can still be happy for other things.

I think the author  wanted the readers to learn perseverance and not just think about theme and when they will complain about nothing they will think of the book and say “I am complaining for nothing other people don’t even have that.”

Salva showed at the end of the book  that he will never give up by going to the other villages to help them have a better life. It’s important because we can see that he is not thinking only about his life and helping others. It shows us that it is very important because it can really help the life of other people. The education saved Salva’s life because he could go to America and have a job and money. This book is showing us the importance of the water because not every one has water in their house. Do not waste water because other people needed this water that you wasted.

It makes me feel that I have a very good life and sometimes I complain about things like when I don’t want to go to school or when my clothes are not super beautiful like I want. The most important message in the story is to always have perseverance. If I had one question to Salva would be “How did you did to live with out your family, don’t know where they are, if they're alive. I will recommend this book to  my friend because the book is showing us other life’s other point of view of life.
